Best Travel Moments of 2013: Number 1!
My “Best of ’13” countdown has come to an end, leaving you with an unforgettable travel memory, one that a year ago I couldn’t imagine to achieve or even come close to. It has a lot to do with my sudden love for mountain climbing/trekking/hiking, but I have to say I have surpassed all my expectations towards myself. In late August, we managed to reach the top of Mount Olympus in just one day of hiking. After 7 long hours of climbing, we reached Greece’s highest point, the Mytikas peak (2918 m). It was a tough few hours, because I have never been on such a long trek in my life (counting the extra 5 hours that took us to get back), and there were some steep grounds where I thought I wouldn’t make it. After reaching Skala peak (2866 m), we had to descend and go through some pretty tough cliffs which crumbled underneath our feet in order to reach Mytikas. At the time I wasn’t at all scared, because my mind was more preoccupied with paying attention to my every step and had only realized how dangerous the path was when I saw the photos after we got home. I have to say conquering that peak had to be one of the happiest moments in my life! I felt free, and knowing as I achieved this goal (and it wasn’t an easy task – not at all a walk-up to the peak trek like I thought at first) I immediately got a thirst for more!
With this post I say goodbye to you and 2013 this year, and may all your wishes come true in 2014! May you have happiness and health in your life and may you achieve as much of your pre-written bucketlists (if you have one), and travel, meet as much cultures, trek as many mountains you can! 🙂
