The Three Best Views of Kotor Bay
I know many people insist on the fact that Kotor Bay has the best view from the Castle of Saint Giovanni, but many don’t know that there are two other awesome and more accessible places which offer scenic views over this amazing natural phenomena. But first, let’s start with the most famous one:
1. Kotor Bay from San Giovanni Castle
One can get to the start of the long, 1350-steps journey from inside the Old Town of Kotor, between its walls. For a mere 2-3 euros anyone can begin the long and somewhat exhausting ascent towards the most spectacular views of a fjord in the Balkans. At approximately one-third of the steps you shouldn’t miss the iconic composition of Kotor Bay serving as the background for the church tower of Our Lady of Remedy, one of the most famous photos used for commercializing tourism in Montenegro.
Seize the opportunity look through some of the weapon holes every once in a while, to discover some of the most unique views of the Old Town Area. Here’s St. Tryphon through a hole:
Don’t forget to look back every once in a while to see what you’ve overcome whilst you’re enjoying the view:
Look around a bit to see an alternative, but equally awesome route across one of the hills behind the castle:
And make sure you have a victory photo once you’re up!
2. Kotor Bay from the E80 road
Last year I was in a group trip to Montenegro, and we ran out of time after sightseeing in the city of Kotor, so our guides decided to give us an alternative view of the bay and took us to the top of the E80 road, a somewhat steep and very narrow route, barely practicable by bus. But if you’re with a car, you shouldn’t have any problems getting fast and easy to a different, but equally lovely view of Europe’s southernmost fjord:
3. Kotor Bay from the E65
As you approach the area on the E65 arriving from Lipci, do stop for a few moments to take in the view of the lovely natural phenomena from a third, and possibly less-known angle. The view is beautiful at any time of the day, and we caught a glimpse of it right before sundown:
Which view is your favorite?
If you liked the bay, then you’ll definitely love the town! Take a look at the 7 Must-sees in Kotor Old Town!
They all offer lovely views over Kotor Bay. Great photos! For some reason the city makes me think of Dubrovnik, must be the red roof tops:)
Thank you for your comment! I agree, I don’t have a favorite either, they’re all so stunning!
