The Famous Bigar Falls
If you spend a little bit of time on the internet then you’ve probably heard of this waterfall, which took the internet by storm in 2014, many proclaiming that it was one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world (Huffington Post named it a place straight out of a fairytale). So it was more than understandable that we decided to visit it and see for ourselves what all the hype was about since we were in the area.
We knew we got to the right place when we saw the myriad of cars parked by the road and the abundance of tourists which flooded the area. We parked our car and walked to the entrance gate, where we were asked to pay 5 Ron (about 1.1 euros) to enter. But before all of us turned around to go back to our cars and get our wallets, a member of our group saw the waterfall right next to entrance, perfectly visible from the road.
As we were in a hurry we decided not to enter and took a couple of photos of the waterfall from the road. I immediately though how small the waterfall was, compared to the gigantic ones which actually exist. Although it was damaged a couple of months before our visit due to the heavy floods coming down the mountain, it is a pretty good condition. Its form is definitely unique and all in all, I do consider it’s worth a short stop 🙂
Wondering what else you can do in the area? You can delve into The Wonderland of the Nera Valley or explore the Nera Valley Highlights while you’re here.
I went there 2 years ago and camped next to the river. The area is just amazing!! However, I must say I was pretty disappointed in the waterfall. I was expecting something … Bigger 🙂
Haha, same here! I expected it to be grand and enormous. It’s a cute little waterfall, neverteless 😀
Oh wow it looks really lovely !
It is! Although it’s surprisingly small (somewhat like Mona Lisa’s painting, haha!)
haha ! I remembered the first time I saw Mona Lisa. I was socked !
Yep, same here! Even though I heard it was small, I didn’t actually think it was THAT small haha!
